In southern Ontario, a deciduous forest (ie, with broad-leaved trees) has developed as a result of hot and humid summer temperatures. WebEastern Ontario lies near the northern edge of the deciduous forest region (Barnes 1991, Braun 1950; Fig. 1), in the hemlock-white pine-northern hardwoods zone. Typically, the most common species in a mature stand of upland forest would be sugar maple and beech followed by basswood, red maple, yellow birch, hemlock and white ash (Rowe 1972).
